Ingredients:
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage, casing removed
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can 14 ounces diced tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions:
Follow the directions on the box to cook orzo pasta until it is al dente
Remove the water and set it aside
Over medium-high heat, use a spatula to break up the Italian sausage into crumbles and cook it in a large skillet until it is browned and done
If you need to, get rid of the extra fat
Put minced garlic and chopped onion into the pan with the sausage
After two to three minutes, the onion should be clear
The dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper should all be mixed in now
Add two to three more minutes of cooking
Mix the cooked orzo pasta well with the sausage and tomato mixture after adding it to the pan
Add the chicken broth and let it simmer for 5 to 7 minutes
This will let the flavors blend and the orzo soak up some of the liquid
Add the grated Parmesan cheese and stir it in until it melts and the sauce gets a little thicker
Add fresh basil leaves on top and serve hot
Have fun with your tasty Italian sausage orzo!
